When it comes to defining the classic or antique car, it can get pretty confusing. It seems that everywhere you look all of the definitions are different. This is a definition that many people run into conflict regarding. A car that one person might consider to be an antique or a classic, might be considered by someone else just to be a piece of garbage. So if you have an older car, you should ultimately see a professional in this field. The age of the car is not enough to make it a classic anymore. There are many other aspects to be considered.

According to many sources, an antique car is any car that was made before the First World War or before the year 1916. That makes most actual antique cars almost impossible to find since not many were made before that war. Production on most models of car was actually stopped because of the war. So anybody with one of these vehicles in their possession has an antique that they should be taking very special care of. In fact, some of these antiques should actually be in a museum. Seeking a second opinion is always recommended when dealing with automotive professionals of any kind.

When it comes to classic cars, the Classic Car Club of America has stated that 1948 is the last year for a car to be considered a classic automobile. A classic car can be either American or foreign but it should have been produced between the years 1925 and 1948. There are many other factors that are involved of course, like make and model as well as certain components like power brakes and other luxury accessories. The Classic Car Club keeps a very tight rein on what cars are allowed to be considered classic.

The definition of a classic car can also vary by state. When it comes to registration and insurance of a classic vehicle, there are certain rules that must be followed. This is why the definition can vary. You should always talk to somebody from the state that you live in if you have a classic car. This way you will know for sure the information you obtain applies to your car because of your location. The year that your car was manufactured also plays a role. There are different tax statuses for different years, so make sure you know what applies to you.

A common mistake made by many people is to assume that cars from the 1960s and the 1970s are classic when in actuality, they are not. These cars are actually considered modern classics which is not at all the same thing as a true classic. This is why you should always speak to a professional when it comes to insuring a car that you are not sure about the classic status of. Classic and antique cars are amazing creations but it can be hard to know the proper definition. Do some research and consult those who know so that you get it right the first time.

Some of the antique car insurance companies require the individuals to limit their usage of the antique cars, as this will reduce the further wear and tear of the automobile parts. In addition to this, with the restrictions on the number of miles the chances of antique car involving in unexpected accidents will be much reduced. Most of the insurance companies are following this methodology to ensure that the probabilities of antique car insurance claims are not frequent.

Therefore, these terms of the insurance companies are to be noted while making the purchases. There are allowances for the ones who do not own another car and need to use the antique cars for their routine activities. In the case of regular use, choosing the insurance policies that restricts the usage of the antique car will never be suitable. The premiums are much low if the individual agrees to put the car into use only for the to and fro travel to any display shows. Wrecking the antique cars beyond the coverage offered by the insurance companies can lead to extensive frustrations and financial glitches too.

Difference between Stated Value and Agreed Value

Though not widely known, there is a major difference between what the insurance companies mention as stated value and agreed value. These are two methods followed by the insurance companies and it is always wise to play it safe by discussing this issue in detail with the concerned representatives. The wrong choice may even disrupt the antique car insurance claims made during any major damages or accidents.

Parking Restrictions of the Antique Car Insurances

In addition to the above-mentioned terms, some of the antique car insurance companies may have conditions on the parking or storage of the antique cars. This is also for the same reason of not exposing the decades-old cars to excessive weather changes or damages. Most of the insurance companies will have just the basic requirements about the storage place of the antique cars such as it must be completely shielded from external environmental effects, must have reliable security measures to minimize thefts, and so on. However, other insurance companies will have specific terms about not parking the antique cars in unattended parking lots, overnight parking at hotels, or that it must be stored in enclosed locked trailers etc. Paying attention to the details of the terms will avoid unnecessary shocks.

By having a wide variety of car insurance companies to choose from, the consumer has the ability to choose the right type of insurance for their needs.

Car Insurance Companies

Many commercial car insurance companies can also provide car insurance for an antique car. Also called collector car insurance, these policies are tailored to the car you are attempting to insure. A car insurance representative will take all of your information and discuss different policy options with you to ensure that you are obtaining the coverage that you need. Independent Insurance Companies

If you are a classic car enthusiast, you might be considering just how much that restored set of wheels that is sitting in your garage could garner in a sales or auction situation, especially in today's economy. You might be interested in learning about your appraisal options, but it is also important to know that just like with any item that may be considered valuable, true worth is in the eye of the beholder. Therefore, regardless of what you find, know that it is always opinion based and that actual value is only determined once someone decides to write a check. Always look for a second opinion when appraising your classic car.

First, antique car appraisal and research can be started through online methods. It is important for you to make sure that the information you find is verifiable and accurate, so only use the Internet as a place to gather information. Don't expect a car buyer to take Wikipedia's word for how much you think you should get for your antique car at auction.

Next, look for a business that specializes in the sale or acquiring of antique cars. Reputable auction houses or luxury car dealers are sometimes a good way of determining true worth. If one of these organizations is a member of an antique car organization or appraisal system, feel confident in the information they provide. Always check to see if they are a member of the Better Business Bureau and look up reviews and their rating online.

If you are looking for appraisal services for insurance purposes or for other legal documentation, it will be necessary to go to a licensed appraiser. Every state has licensing programs for individuals in this profession and there is a set of rules and guidelines that must be followed if an appraiser is licensed by the Appraisal Foundation.

Continue to research through this process. It is important for you to understand the ratings used to appraise a classic car and many publications and magazines, such as The Ultimate Collector Car Price Guide published by Cars and Parts Magazine, Antique Car Appraisal, and Collector Car Values are great sources for obtaining information on your particular vehicle along with the ratings certified appraisers use in the process.

Classic car ratings used in the appraisal process vary from excellent, fine, very good, good, restorable and parts car. They are dependent on vehicle condition, mileage, restoration methods, etc. Know that an excellent rating usually only applies to cars that were originally show cars and never driven. These types of cars are very rare and a restored car will not fall into this category.

While it is probably unlikely you could assign one of the classic car ratings to your own car, it is important for you to be open minded and honest to an appraiser about vehicle history and maintenance. If you are up front about past issues with your antique car, you are more likely to get more in an appraisal situation in the long run.

Bus travel is one of the inexpensive ways to use as a mean of transport. You can actuality go around the country riding on a bus in comfort and style. One of the most popular bus lines that travelers usually take is the Greyhound bus. It is a friendly-user type of bus that can take travelers to far destinations such as those of the airplanes.

The Greyhound bus can travel all over the United States including Canada. If you want to use the Greyhound for your bus travel then it would be nice to learn more about good travel tips and what else Greyhound can offer.

Utilize neck pillows. This would make your bus travel more comfortable. You can sleep more comfortably as well. You can buy cheap neck pillows that can be inflated and deflated depending on your need.

Bring your ids. Greyhound has strict rules about this. They want to check and verify their passengers. You may need your ids when you change buses along your entire trip.

Dress appropriately for your bus travel. Think of comfortable traveling clothes. Keep a coat or jacket handy just in case you would feel cold during the trip.

Carry snacks and drinks with you. Greyhound allows these items as they understand that their passengers would have to eat and drink during the long bus travel.

Greyhound allows transfers if your route would be the same as the other Greyhound buses. Your ticket can be used in any of their buses.

Greyhound gives discounts on fares to senior citizens who ride their buses. It can be a 5% discount. The bus line also offers discounted fares for reservations made ahead of time.

Another good thing about bus travel by Greyhound is that you can still get tickets an hour before the bus is scheduled to depart.

Proper assistance is given to disabled passengers as long as they have an advanced notice of 48 hours before the scheduled travel.

You can buy tickets and make advanced reservations online as well.

But then bus travel is less than perfect and Greyhound can be in that condition, too. One of the downsides of the Greyhound bus is that you may have no assistance in carrying your bags if you transfer buses. Their stations may not have restaurants or food stalls, only vending machines are available.

Reservations are based on a first-come, first-served basis. If all disabled seats are taken and there are still disabled passengers who want to get in, the driver can ask other passengers if they want to give up their seats. If passengers don't want to then they won't be forced to do it. Disabled passengers may have to wait for the next bus schedule. Lastly, Greyhound won't refund just in case your bus comes late.

Is there a family picnic you are planning? And it happens to be when you have a reunion? And there are many people for the fun day? Wondering how to manage the transportation? Well the simple answer to this is to get a bus or a mini bus on hire. It will solve the headache of travel concerns for so many of your loved ones.

Well a bus is a much easier of getting many people to a single location rather than getting many cars on rent. Firstly the bus happens to much more economical in terms of per head cost for the family day. As everyone is travelling together the bus also allows one to reduce the emissions per head. Renting many cars would cause more emissions as compared to a single bus. Plus when there is good road connectivity then the bus is a good option.

In the United Kingdom there are many firms which offer such rental services. There are many firms which offer such rentals in the big cities like London, Liverpool, and Birmingham etc. The service is generally in packages. These packages can include many add on features like the option of a driver at an extra cost or an insurance cover in case of an accident. There are firms which even offer free pick and drop of the vehicles to the desired address by the customer.

But, travelling in a bus has its own advantages. One, as everyone is together it makes the journey that much more delightful and fun. Being a big vehicle with more comforts the elderly in the family would feel more comfortable. It also avoids confusion as now you don't have to worry if the other cars are following you or not! A bus will also give more comforts as compared to cars and also the option to carry more luggage. It is especially useful when carrying big things like a garden umbrella or outdoor barbeque set.

Classic cars still have a great appeal to many people. There is always a buyer for a classic muscle car. It usually does not matter what condition the car is in, there will usually always be a buyer for the car.

Car shows and sells are still booming even in a recession. There are many cars in all stages of repair that are available for purchase. If you have a classic car you actually have money in the bank. These cars usually increase in value every year while being a great item for your collection.

You can purchase classic cars for a bargain if you find the right car and are able to have it restored. Once the car is restored, either by yourself or a person who restores cars you can then make a great profit on the vehicle when selling it. You may not sell it at the first show or the first time that you advertise it, but patience will allow you the opportunity to find the right buyer that is willing to pay your price.

Not only are the classic cars still bringing the money that they are worth, the extra parts that you have for the old muscle cars will also be in demand. There are more buyers then sellers with the parts and the vehicles.

If you have extra money and don't feel safe keeping it in the bank, do a little research and purchase a old muscle car and hold on to it. Not only can you drive it for a few years, the value will be retained with a little elbow grease and maintenance with the vehicle. You usually will always find a buyer when you are ready to sell that will be willing to pay your asking price

Classic cars have appreciated tremendously in value in recent days, and they are in high demand. Your first inclination may be to sell your car outright and cash in on your investment, but a look at the capital gains tax rates might change your mind.

Now is certainly a great time to cash in on the classic car you've been holding for investment, but a look at the tax rates on the sale of collectibles might put a damper on your enthusiasm; as much as 28% of your profits could end up going to capital gains taxes.

Imagine, for example, that you have a 1967 Ferrari that you bought for $270,000 but which has since appreciated in value to $800,000. At this point, you're likely quite pleased with your investment. But you might balk at the 28 percent capital gains rate on the sale of this car, and you'd be right to do so, because a 1031 exchange could save you that 28 percent and let you reinvest that money instead of losing it to taxes.

First of all, you need to be aware that like-kind requirements on personal property are far stricter than those on real estate. When making a 1031 exchange on real estate, you can, for example, exchange an apartment building for a farm. When making an exchange on a collector car, you can only exchange it for another car, not for a crane or a piece of aircraft equipment. Also keep in mind that it is best to exchange for property of equal or greater value. If you downsize, you will not receive the greatest possible tax deferment.

1031 exchanges on personal property are conducted in much the same manner as real estate exchanges, but one important difference is that the like-kind requirements that must be met for the exchange to be valid are quite a bit more stringent. While a real estate investor can, for example, exchange an apartment building for farmland of equal or greater value, an investor dealing with personal property can only exchange a car for a car, a plane for a plane, and so on.

By making an exchange on your personal property instead of selling outright, you can avoid a huge hit to your returns and maximize your potential profits.

Safari is a Swahili word-meaning journey or travel. It has become synonymous with adventure and the feel of a pioneering spirit.

When Queen Elizabeth the 2nd found out that her father had passed and that she was now queen the first of Safari Rallies was held. To be considered as the most difficult rally in the world made Kenyans proud as the worlds best set foot on Kenyan soil and mapped the East African route.

For many a generation this spectacle was the highlight of the year. The drivers became legendary as the skillfully turned sharp bends and weaved through winding paths where one would never have thought a car could pass leave alone fly past.

The road was and to this day mostly is a dusty orange track of sand but to make the adventure a little more interesting the route would take drivers through volcanic rock where ones back and suspension would both take a beating. This was not match for the treacherous black cotton soil though, seemingly harmless this soil has properties that make it hold water for long periods of time and driving through it is like driving through snow but with the opposite set of rules.

Drivers now in there mid 50's and early 60's are known by children born far after the drivers themselves stopped rallying. Drivers such as Bjorn Waldergard who won 3 times and Joginder Singh who completed the rally driving in reverse for almost 200 miles after his gearbox jammed and only reverse would engage.

Today modern legends are born in the wake of a new era and Ian Duncan is a favorite but over 30 competitors are registered.

The rally this year is especially interesting as it passes a scenic route and through bush country where the Maasai roam free amongst their cattle and hundreds of wild animals including the great big 5 (the Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo & Rhino) The route is still treacherous and the adventure exhilarating.

Another aspect making the rally unique is that only classic vehicles that are between 30 and 50 years old are allowed and that the great drivers of days gone by are returning for one last race.

Classic car insurance is a special type of insurance available for people with collector vehicles. These types of cars include antiques, classics, custom cars, and replicas among other types. There are usually specialized insurance companies that provide classic car insurance. These companies have their own agents or else, a broker might also have these types of policies.

Typically, a car insurance broker has information regarding all kinds of insurance available in the market. If a classic car owner goes to the agent of a regular car insurance company, he or she may refuse to insure the classic car. The reason for this is that not many regular companies insure classic cars. Therefore, a classic car insurance broker is the best person to approach for a comprehensive rates comparison.

Another advantage of going to a broker is that he or she will provide impartial comparison of rates offered by many companies. On the other hand, an agent for a particular company will only have information regarding that particular company. A classic car insurance broker also understands the specific needs of the car owner and can explain various terms such as limited mileage car insurance or no claims discount car insurance.

A classic car insurance broker helps the car owner select the best policy based of many factors. These factors are type of car, usage, location, driving history of the owner, number of drivers listed, age of drivers and age and value of the classic car. The next important job of the broker is to advice the car owner regarding the right amount of deductible that must be opted for. A deductible is the amount the car owner has to pay in case of a claim. Higher the deductible, lower is the premium, and so choosing the correct deductible option is vital for the car owner.

Though brokers provide excellent comparisons, it is advisable to gather some basic information through websites or other sources before approaching the broker. This allows better understanding of terms and conditions and enables the car owner to determine of budget for purchasing the policy

If you've just bought your first classic car you will need to consider not just where, but also how you are going to insure it.

As a classic car owner it matters not if you drive a perfect condition Ford Capri 3 litre from 1970, a beat up old Morris Minor from the Sixties or a sleek E-type Jaguar in British racing green, it is essential that you find the best classic car insurance cover for your cherished motor, that covers your individual risks at prices that won't break the bank!

If you have not owned a classic car before it is important to realise that there are basic differences between what is known as a standard car insurance policy and the cover offered under one defined as classic, from a specialist car insurer.

The first thing to establish is whether your car is eligible for cover under a classic policy. One way you could do this is ask the previous owner whether it was covered under a classic car insurance policy and with which insurance company.

Different car insurance companies have different definitions of the age and type of vehicles that can be covered under this type of cover.

What might be easily covered with one provider may be excluded by another. Fortunately most online classic car cover providers provide this information on the first page of their websites, so it is fairly easy to surf around and check your eligibility with different insurance companies.

You should check that both the eligibility of the age of the car in question and also whether there are policy restrictions for your individual driving circumstances, such as your age that would prevent you from applying for cover.

The major variation between a standard policy and those offered by the classic car specialists is in the way that you use your classic vehicle, and in particular, how much you drive it. The large mainstream insurers and price comparison sites will offer cover for older cars but will charge an additional premium because of its age. They will also load the premium if replacement parts for the vehicle type are known to be expensive.

More importantly you will only be offered the current market value replacement if the car is covered under a mainstream policy and is deemed to be a write-off when you claim.

With a standard car insurance policy on a replacement like for like basis, the value of the car is often set by the market value at the time of a claim, typically taken from one of the car price magazines such as the UK's Glasses Guide. The amount you will be probably receive for a write-off will be at the current market value of your car which is an annual depreciating amount. Inevitably, if you own a classic car and insure it under a standard policy contract, this leads to under valuation and under insurance of the true value of the car. You will also probably not be offered the salvage and a repairable classic car may often be deemed a write-off because the cost of repair is uneconomic to the Insurer.

If you purchase a specialist classic car policy you will be offered a choice of either an agreed valuation of the classic cars worth or a policy based on market value.

An agreed valuation amount is the amount that the insurance company will pay out in the event of a claim that results in a write off. This is a major benefit of insuring classics under specialist policies because it ensures that you are not just properly covered but will also receive the specialist repair services that your classic will require should you claim. It should be noted that even agreed valuation polices can change and you should ensure that the value is guaranteed for a certain period of time to avoid fluctuations in market values.

Classic Car insurance polices are therefore tailored to the needs of cars considered to be collectable and effectively the valuation is a rating factor for the condition of the car.

The other major difference between standard and classic policies is in the way that you are allowed to use your car under the terms of the agreement. Originally this type of vehicle insurance was designed for drivers who do not use their classic cars much.

All classic car policies have a limited mileage clause which only covers the vehicle for an agreed amount of miles per year. Depending upon which specialist car insurance company you use, there will be a limit to how far you can drive your classic. Some providers will only cover a couple of thousand miles per year under the policy, but many specialist providers are now offering cover up to ten thousand miles per year. These policies reflect the fact that many drivers now use modern day classic cars as their main form of transport.

As with all car insurance it is important to compare both covers and prices when shopping around. There are many specialist classic insurance providers available online today and many specialist schemes that are targeted at particular classic owners. Compare the premiums offered by these with those from the price comparison sites, but if you want to avoid disappointment if you need to make a claim, be sure to understand the difference in policy covers.
